Self Concept
By Bishop Fred Akama
The whole of the New Testament Christianity rests on one thing. HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF. The children of Israel saw THEMSELVES as GRASSHOPPERS. The enemies saw them exactly the same way. People will ALWAYS see you the way you see YOU. The aim of the grace of God is to change how you see you. In fact, the common word REPENTANCE actually means change of MIND and direction. May or may not involve feelings of REMORSE. But if mind is not changed, no repentance has occurred. Regardless of the level of remorse displayed.
There’s always an INTERNAL CONVERSATION going on within you, and the Bible prescribes the ideal contents of this conversation. Ephesians 5:19 (KJV) Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord… Speak to YOURSELF this way.
God is known as the great I AM. That’s why it’s a spiritual fallacy to start a sentence with I AM… then follow it with something that God is NOT. Like, “I am depressed. ” God is not depressed. I assure you.
We are admonished not to think of ourselves MORE highly than we ought. But this gives leeway to think of yourself HIGHLY. We are required to have the MIND of Christ who humbled Himself till death on the cross. Ok. WHAT was His MIND? He THOUGHT it not robbery to be equal with God. True HUMILITY is agreement with what GOD says about YOU. To a religious mind, this will sound ARROGANT and PROUD.
When you begin to discover who you are in God, and refuse to accept NEGATIVITY and petty thinking, you’ll be labelled PROUD. I guarantee you. And subtle pressure will be applied to make you accept the religious definition of humility, which is basically SELF ABASEMENT.
But the Bible says we can only make our faith effectual if we acknowledge every GOOD thing in us because of Christ.
Philemon 1:6 that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
We make our BOAST in the LORD. In fact, it gives a rather unique measure of HUMILITY.
Psalms 34:2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad
If you hear me acknowledging all the GOODNESS of God to me, and it makes you HAPPY, then according to this scripture, YOU’RE humble. Not if it irritates you, then the problem is not MY humility. It’s YOURS.
I pray. That God will open your understanding. And you will realize your true WORTH in Christ. In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! It is DONE. #RevivalisHere.
